NEW HOME GUIDE

REDESIGNING FOR THE MODERN FAMILY

While working with RentPath on New Home Guide, I had the opportunity to take the design in a brand new direction while keeping the current content structure the same. New Home Guide is an industry leading resource for matching new home buyers with builders and sellers who are currently on the market for new homes.

OBJECTIVE: CREATE A NEW EXPERIENCE FOR PROSPECTIVE NEW HOME BUYERS AND BUILDERS.

ROLE: LEAD VISUAL DESIGNER

PHASE 1: RESEARCH

PERSONA: MEET THE MILLERS

The persona I was given is a model of your average family with 2 kids. Dad works as a Lawyer and Mom works as a tech blogger. Kids are 9 (boy) and 12 (girl). They also have a golden retriever named Rufus who would love to have a big back yard.

Salary: combined they make ~ $150k a year

Location: They currently live in the city and want to move away to the suburbs

Needs & Goals:

  • Need to find reputable home builders to construct their dream home
  • They have a few locations they have in mind so they need to be able to look nationwide

THE PAIN POINTS:

  • Site uses a fixed width and does not have any responsive capabilities affecting the overall experience on desktop and mobile.
  • The site is very dated and provokes almost no emotion and has a bland color scheme
  • Navigation and search is difficult and the user is presented which too many filtering options which in turn causes a negative experience
